Meeting of school chaplains held at Bishop Bell School, Eastbourne on Tuesday 26th January 2016

This meeting was hosted by the Chaplain of Bishop Bell School, Revd. David Garratt and his wife, Helen. It was attended by fifteen chaplains drawn from both state and independent schools from the dioceses of Chichester, Rochester and Southwark.

The meeting welcomed the Archdeacon of Chichester, Ven. Douglas McKittrick, who affirmed the support and thanks given by the Diocese of Chichester to all those who served as chaplains in schools both within and beyond the Diocese.

Much of the meeting was devoted to a searching examination of the draft National Standards for School Chaplains. There was also a discussion about Christian values in schools and it was suggested that an annual cycle of meetings be put in place and that the next meeting should focus on SMSC, values and British Values in particular. Everyone left feeling affirmed in their ministry within schools.
